What is Teaching in France Really Like? TAPIF Diary #3

January 2020

This month with the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF) went by in the blink of an eye! As usual, we’ve been having fun travelling, hanging out in Troyes, and teaching English classes to French middle and high schoolers. Here’s what we’ve been up to from the end of December until now!

End of December

My mom arrived in France for a visit on the 26th of December. We visited all of our favorite spots in Troyes and even discovered some new places during her trip.

Here are some of the highlights:

Inside look at the Musée Saint-Loup
Outside view of the Musée de Vauluisant
  • French Coffee Shop: Yes, it’s really called “French Coffee Shop” – Drank some delicious coffee and ate some sweet treats here
Our fancy drinks and muffins
A glimpse of the Église de Saint-Pantaléon
Église Sainte-Madeleine’s organ
A scene from Les Bulles Enchantées
Maria and her mom at the Basilique Saint-Urbain

January

At the beginning of January, Jalen, my mom, and I headed off to Paris! Here’s a few things we saw during our vacation:

  • Arc de Triomphe: Climbed up and down the 300ish steps and got a great view of the city
Foggy view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower
Maria and Jalen visiting Baudelaire’s grave
Napoleon’s red porphyry sarcophagus

We spent the last four weeks of January teaching new lessons to our students. We educated them about New Year’s, conducted competitive rounds of Scattergories, played Two Truths and a Lie, and taught about American yearbooks among other activities.

Once again, we had a fun-filled month and are still loving our TAPIF experience. We’re looking forward to our break and a visit from Jalen’s family next month! If you have any questions about what we’ve been doing or want to know more, leave us a comment!
