Seven Great Reasons to Start a Blog Today

When Jalen and I started The Francofile, our shared online project that spans YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and this blog, we weren’t totally sure whether we’d be successful. We knew we wanted to publicly share our life as a French-loving, American couple, but we found ourselves wondering…

Do people still read blogs?

More than three years later, we can answer that question with a resounding yes! Our blog content has reached thousands of people interested in all things French, equipped English language assistants with the information they need about the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF), inspired international students to study in the French higher education system, and more. Additionally, blogging has opened doors to exciting opportunities that wouldn’t have been available to us otherwise.

If you’ve ever thought about blogging, but aren’t sure if it’s worth the effort, keep reading to discover seven convincing reasons to start your blog today!

1. Document Your Experiences

Over time, your memories will fade, but the stories you immortalize on your blog will not! Looking back at the adventures you took, the people you met, the difficulties you faced, the triumphs you secured, and everything in between allows you to meaningfully reflect on your life. It also lets others peek into your experiences and learn from them, making your blog a handy resource for your audience. Chronicle the significant experiences you have by starting a blog!

2. Channel Your Creativity

Many adults don’t carve out time in their busy schedules to be creative. Without elementary school art projects to make or weekend dance lessons to attend, it’s easy to forget the importance of using our imaginations and flexing our creative muscles. Blogging involves the practice of many art forms, such as photography, writing, and graphic design. Channeling your creativity through blogging will allow you to express yourself and make you feel good!

3. Share Your Knowledge

If you have expertise that will benefit others, blogging gives you a platform to share it. Billions of people turn to the internet daily with their most pressing questions – make your blog the place where they can find the answers! Publishing information online about subjects you understand well enriches our collective knowledge base and can make a real difference. Don’t keep your know-how to yourself, share the wealth by starting a blog.

4. Hone Your Skills

Online skills are in demand as the internet continues to play an ever-growing role in modern society. Starting a blog is one approach to acquiring technical expertise that matters in the age of the internet. Search Engine Optimization (SEO), copywriting, creative writing, proofreading, HTML coding, photo editing, and content creation are just a few of the abilities we’ve mastered by running The Francofile. Hone these skills and more by starting your own blog!

5. Create an Online Identity

Your online identity should showcase the best parts of who you are, and starting a blog is a practical method of constructing your unique corner of the web. Building your personal brand will cement who you are, what you stand for, what you excel in, and why what you have to say matters in the minds of your readers. Crafting quality blog posts will make you visible on the internet and ensure that the right people and opportunities find you.

6. Stay in Touch

Do you ever wish you had more time to spend catching up with friends and family? It’s easy to get lost in the day to day, only to realize it’s been weeks or months since you last chatted with your loved ones. Keeping up a blog is a useful means to let people in your life know what you’re up to even when disparate time zones, thousands of miles, or conflicting agendas are in the way. Sharing snippets of your life on a blog makes staying in touch simple.

7. Connect With Others

Starting a blog puts the world at your fingertips. If you make content online, you’ll gain access to a network of people far beyond your personal acquaintances, and assembling a community excited about the same topics as you is gratifying! Developing a relationship with your readers by asking and answering questions, discussing relevant issues, and swapping related stories is part and parcel of running a blog. Find people to connect with by starting yours!

There are so many good reasons to start a blog, so don’t wait any longer! We can’t imagine our life without The Francofile, and we know you’ll feel the same if you give blogging a try. Still not convinced? Let us know how we can help in a comment!
